Current Rehab Case: 7 year old, 14 hand 1100 lb mare. In her previous living situation, this mare was subjected to years of being over-shortened, especially in the heel, and constantly wearing shoes. New owners had her re-shod twice, and eventually the shoes were pulled and she received a regular trim. Within a week, Laminitis, upward rotation in left front, and abscessing in right front were diagnosed by the vet. The previous conditions had caused the structures of her feet to shift forward and up. Soles totally flat, feet contracted, heels under-run, over grown frogs reach close to end of toe, bruising of hoof wall. Mare walking very stiffly and limping. 3 weeks after shoes pulled, prior to barefoot trim: Right Front Right Side Front View Left Side Left Front

6 weeks after first barefoot trim: Greater concavity, heels moving further back and out, frog continues to move back toward a normal distance from the toe. The mare is standing much straighter on her heels, no longer limping, and only a slight stiffness remains. She was actually seen resting her hind feet after this trim, evidence of the new found comfort in her front feet. Right Front Right Side Front View Left Side Left Front
